Netflix is a good example, if every app could just point to their website to pay, why would anyone use Apple’s? You end up with an App Store full of free apps with IAP and the entire App Store making no money. Which might be fine but I think it would hurt the platform.

I guess that’s fine if developers are willing to have that fee go up potentially by a lot.

Dont get me wrong I think Apple needs to change something here, but the comparisons against physical stores fall apart in my eyes because of the ability to offer free apps with IAP.

But none of those suppliers offer a “free” tier. If everyone could just say go to our website to subscribe/pay, then all the apps would be free and the companies would do all of the transactions on their own sites.

I think this comparison only works if you got the iPhone for free from Best Buy, then when you first turned it on Apple asked you to pay $ to activate the phone. BB hosts/distributes the product but all txns happen “outside” the store so BB gets nothing.
